ADF Pay rise offer

Hi there,

The ADF have been offered a pay rise of 1.5% over each of the next 3 years.

To me that seems way under what people we are currently asking to risk their lives deserve.

A one year recruit would receive $44000 per annum and the pay rise would add $12 a week for the first year and total about $40 a week over the 3 years, taking them to about $46000..

There are about 80000 ADF staff in the service at the moment. So total pay rise based on only the base grade, one year recruit would cost $48 million a year. Of course that figure is way below Senior Officers who receive over $200000 pe rannum now and the payrise offer would add $60 per week for the first year and about $200 per week over the 3 years. That sounds much more reasonable but the basic soldier gets very little and well below inflation.

Well, they all do in fact. It's just that the higher paid people do get a lot more out of the rise. If we assume the average of all staff is $80,000, a bit high maybe,  But assume that for now. Their average pay rise would be about $23 per week, say $75 over 3 years.

So the total, very rough figures would be 80,000 multiplied by the $75 per week. In 3 years that would cost $96 million bucks. And Abbott estimates the whole war would cost half a billion. That's bullshit for a start, the half a billion, as this will take years and require boots on the ground.

The ADF staff do not get to vote on their pay rises so if Abbott sticks with that offer that is the end of it. I cannot see Australians clamouring to get in with a cut in real salary over the next three years. A hundred million over 3 years is his offer. He has spent more than that on all these pointless enquiries, searching for planes and keeping the refugees out.

Think about it and see if you think this pay offer is fair.

I do not.
