Day of the dead

Hi there,

Heard about a Mexican custom which they call, in English "Day of the Dead".

Sounds like a bad movie doesn't it?

But it's meant in the opposite way apparently. The tradition being that remembering your friends, family and loved ones who have passed  once a year on this day is like having them all back, for the day, with you.

There were stories of people who have their wedding on that day so that they can have their best friend, now deceased, as their best man and all your deceased relatives will be there too. In your belief. So it is actuially a happy day and their way of keeping thesae people alive. By thinking about them on that day. So, as long as they are remembered and talked aboiut, even to, they are always alive in your memory.

Sounded pretty ghoulish to me initially but after thinking about it I see where it would help grieving tremendously as, in your mind, they never die and you can remember and think about them on this day, if not other days as well.

Could be something for Western society as a lot of families try not to think about anything too painful. That happened in my family and it was dreadful.

Apparently some Mexican wannabee movie maker took the idea, with a plot to those that make movies and got blanked everywhere. So, after some thinking he called it the "Book of Life" and pitched the idea as fostering happy memories more so and that sold. So a movie is to be made about this.

I find it interesting but it could also get ridiculous and be a comedy rather than what was intended. I look forward to seeiung how it turns out.
