People realise too late, including ME.

Hi again,

We just don't understand the health message until we are propped up in a hospital bed in which one cannot get comfortable and is often too short, for me, I took no heed but gave up drinking and smoking years ago due to bad warning signs. Thank goodness I did give them up when I did as trying to give them up whilst recovering from an operation would be a nightmare.

There were people in the various wards who, snuck out for cigarettes and pizza, oh yeah through traffic. That person regularly checks in for cardiac attention but refuses to concede he is ill enough to stop the bad habits. To me he has a one way ride on which I will not go.

Another smoked those Asian cigarettes made up of cloves, sickly sweet smell, unmistakable and he was imposing that on everyone in his room.Stupidity.

Then, a younger person. Was heavily involved with some illicit drug but would not stop smoking it just because he was in hospital. Would go to the toilet and smoke it and continue all night, in his bed. Nice, friendly guy and I offered contact with him as he has daughters, very young and he needs to wake up. No lectures, just how to recover as I have done that a number of times from the deepest of depressions to cancer now.

And you would not believe how many people are just lying in a bed, struggling to breathe and really they are waiting to die. They are  too far down the line. When the young person had a smoke in the bed, one older person could not breathe and coughed incesssantly. Selfish? Oh yeah, others don't matter when there is an addiction.

Don't believe the numbers lying there, waiting to die? Go have a look. Go as a visitor and look in the wards where smoking is applicable. You'll be horrified.
