Hi Y'all,
I don't know about you but I've been an avid player and later, a watcher of many sports for most of my life. I loved it and it absorbed me most of the time. Throw in gambling and frankly, it was better than sex. True story. I had a few mates of the same attitude so I suppose we enforced that sort of idea onto each other.
But it WAS better than sex as you could gamble and watch sport at any time of the day and always when YOU wanted to. No trying to convince someone, no costs in ensuring it happens and no commitments. That was the way it was.
But the last year or three I'm finding AFL and NRL quite boring and don't watch as much as I did. I bet on it but fall asleep listening to it in bed on the radio
There's just too much cheating, referees showing favouritism and giving penalties and free kicks to one side only. I hate that, I just want to see a fair game where it is the players that decide the game, not the referee.
I've taken to Gridiron though and look forward to that season, September, more than the other sports these days. They have a coaches challenge in their game where the coach can challenge a call made by referees and it is checked on big screen TV and the decision changed regularly. They have 3 challenges per game. That seems to make it fairer to me.
Mind you I could never watch a full game of gridiron on TV as there are so many ad breaks. I record the games and fast forward through the crap and just watch the action which makes it a much faster game.
I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old, which I am, but these other games seem to be so formatted and the same all the time that it's a bore to watch. Coaches find a new way to cheat and players do that until the referees get on to it and that is then made worth a penalty. So they find a new way to cheat.
I used to play sport for the fun of the game. The exercise, challenge and so on. Today that ain't the aim really, even in kids games.
