AC/DC coming to the end or are they already there?

Hi there,

What a band AC/DC have been.

I first saw Bon Scott when he was lead singer with a band called Fraternity. That band put together an Australian style Woodstock at the farm of one of the band's families, at Myponga, south of Adelaide, 1971. I went to that with Black Sabbath advertised as the big name.

They never made it but by then nobody cared anyway. Rain and music and tents and a great time was made by all the bands. I recall hitch hiking back to Adelaide from inside a phone booth, and yes, I did get a ride too!

Bon Scott could sing rock 'n roll and they took off and started to go big time. as we know Bon died of too much booze and vomit one night in London. The driver of that car couldn't move him when they got home and left him in the car overnight. He was dead in the morning. Perhaps a hospital trip when they arrived home may have given a different result but who knows?

Bon divorced his wife Irene in the late 70's and she has just released a book about whatever went on. I actually worked in an office where she did for a while in the late 70's but weren't ever on other than work nodding terms. She wasn't there long.

I thought Bon's death was the end of AC/DC but they stuck Brian Johnson in and he has turned out really well. Still prefer Bon's voice, it had more of an edge, but Brian's been with them over 30 years now.And that's been their biggest years.

The Young brothers founded band is grinding to a halt though. Angus is a bit too old to wear those clothes, his brother has been diagnosed with dementia and they are apparently replacing him with a nephew. Frankly, they are too old and time catches up with us all.

But what a band, and career. Bon was a wild man. Sang hard and wild and played even harder, as we saw.

They'll always be remembered of course, both periods under the two singers but I don't believe there's more to come.

Mrs Young must be so proud of her sons as she also had a son named George who was in the Easybeats, drummer from memory. But he and Harry Vanda from the Easybeats also became one of Australia's most succesful song writers, releasing a few singles also as "Flash and the Pan". Not sure who was the Pan but they didn't ever make a bad record in that format or as the Easybets. All hits to me. What a family of rockers huh? How'd you feel if you were the only one who couldn't play or sing a note?
