Hi Y'all,
There's an issue here in Australia relating to truckies, rates of pay, safety and them making a living.
Several years ago Labor set up an authority which supposedly monitors safety and makes sure truckies don't risk theirs and our lives by driving fast and non stop. That kind of idea. It was supposed to stop the speeding and excessive hours truckies worked which led to more accidents.
Which I find a good idea and in the public interest. However, having driven on interstate trips many times I can guarantee that the majority of trucks STILL drive TOO FAST. Even when they have that stupid sticker on the back of their truck saying they are limited to 100 kph. Going 110 kph in zones that allow that speed I am always passed by huge trucks barreling along at speeds I can only guess at. Well in excess of the legal limit for a car though.
So this idea, although legislated, does nothing to stop these truckies at all.
There is a current rule that decides truckies rates of pay and it too is aimed at making truck driving safe. Naturally truckies want to drive as fast and as often as they want else they don't make any money. Their employers always make demands for such and if they don't, they don't earn.
Truckies deserve to earn whatever they can in my opinion and nothing has stopped them so far.
They are calling for the abolishing of this authority and Turnbull, "the worker's friend" is saying he will abolish it, after the election. To which other MP's etc. have asked "So why wait Turnbull"? They are supposedly going broke now so they would be destitute in another 3 months based on their claims.
This is an issue I have two views on, one for the truckies to make a good living and another for me to drive with safety and not fear any trucks as they could never pass me if they drove according to the law.
But Turnbull suddenly finds a cause to grab votes with yet fucks that up by making it obvious he only wants votes and cares not about either the truckies or the public.
I know I am sick to death of seeing big trucks roar up behind me and try to pass when I am already doing the speed limit. My tendency has been to find places I can let them pass. I don't have deadlines so it doesn't worry me to do that but the truckies care not about anyone on the road.
What do you think?
