Hi y'all,
I've always considered my home country, Australia, to be a reasonably fair and accomodating country but this current election campaign has revealed new depths of degradation for the ruling Party, Malcolm Turnbull and the Coalition.
Don't mistake my comments as being support for Labor, or the Greens. I hate them all.
As an example of this, last week one of the Labor front benchers was caught for not declaring his financial interests (he has 4 houses) and that he had negatively geared it for tax purposes. They all do it but he didn't declare it so was castigated and berated loudly and long by all.
A couple of days later the Leader of the Greens, Surname Di Natale, was caught out himself for similar issues as well as possibly underpaying staff. And he was strident in his attack on the Labor guy. As were the government yet they all do it too. Yes, I despise them all. Di Natale (great name) has gone silent suddenly.
But Turnbull has really plumbed the depths and more as he seems to think he has supreme power here.
You see, he was the Minister for Communications under Abbott who was PM before Turnbull stabbed him in the back ( et tu Brutus? ).
And he was completely fucking up the original scope of the project which was to provide a broadband service as fibre to the house. He took that over from Labor when they lost the last election.
Turnbull, in 2.5 years has managed to double the cost, failed to provide for even all city residents, reduced the service by saying he'd give satellite and wi fi to remote residents.
OK? Still with me? Anyway the company that runs that installation, a government subsidiary, wrote internal papers revealing how badly they were doing. And guess what? They were leaked and last February Turnbull's failures were all over the front pages here. So we all know this shit.
But, last Thursday night, Australian Federal Police raided the offices of a front bench Labor Senator (he had actually tried to table those documents in the Senate months ago but was stopped). Plus they also raided the homes of a couple of Labor staffers.
We do not know what the problem is but we know it's about those leaked documents of which the content has already been broadcast Australia wide.
I don't doubt the Police were trying to be non political about this but I ask you this :
"The NBN company lodged a complaint with the Police last December. One Coalition, a mate of Turnbull's, knew about that complaint but says he told no one. Really? He's a politician for fuck's sake.
Anyways, to the question.
After spending about three or four months manipulating legislation Turnbull was able to engineer an election to come on July 2. Following yet?
Why on earth would the AFP choose to conduct these raids in week 2 of an 8 week election build up? Answer, they wouldn't as there was nothing urgent at all. They could also have done it in Januarey to May but didn't. No, it had to be in the election period.
Why? Because the whole thing was about Malcolm Turnbull's incompetence as the Minister responsible for the NBN. SO it would seem to me Turnbull had decided, by some very twisted thinking IMHO, to make the raids happen during the election period.
He claims the Police act independently of the Prime Minister. Really? Who do they answer to? The PM of course.
The whole thing is bullshit and so ridiculous it's a joke except it's real and those that lead this country are doing this shit, which means nothing to Australians as a whole. It wastes our money in fact.
Think about it and see if you can imagine your country doing anything as dumb as this. You see what Turnbull has actually achieved is to put his own performance, rated as failure, in the spotlight once again. I cannot figure why, he's gotta be out of his tiny little belfry.
