Tanking. Losing on purpose!

Hi Y'all,

Most of you wouldn't notice but amongst those of us who follow sports and sports betting there are some noticeable patterns.

For example, in a group of games, say Gridiron or Soccer, any sport where there are about 8 - 10 games in a weekend or round, it's quite noticeable that often the first or last game involving a very short priced favourite, the favourite loses, either one or both of them. Not every week, but more often than not.

Why is this significant? Well simply because so many punters bet in multiples. They'll pick out a few games in a round and couple them up. Which gives you a good price but all teams have to win. If the short priced favourite in the first or last game loses then most of those multiples will be knocked out.

To me this seems a deliberate pattern which means someone or a group of someones is fixing games to avoid larger payouts.

The word tanking, meaning to lose on purpose, has been bandied about quite a lot lately and there are some tennis players who are known for it. In this regard I would suggest loudmouthed Australian male players are not worth betting on.

And to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, have you noticed how often Serena Williams, always a hot favourite, loses in a final? Like last night in the French Open, last January in the Australian Open and yet more. The US Open when Samantha Stosur beat her 2 - 3 years back.

Sure players are not invulnerable but Serena has made a habit of this. God knows why as she doesn't need the money but facts are facts. She is easily the best player in women's tennis and always is listed at a short price.

Think about it.
