Love and marriage

Hi Y'all,

So have you been married? Or want to get married? Let's think about that first. Here's the lyrics to a Frank Sinatra song I'm sure many of you have heard. Note particularly these lines in the song :

.Go together like a horse and carriage. Not terrifically romantic is it?

.Dad was told by mother. You can't have one without the other.

So the song says marriage was ordered by women but I tend to think both sexes see advantages in it. To me many see the act of marriage as a time to relax and stop worrying as you've made a commitment to each other "Till death does you part". Many also let their appearance go, stop having sex (I've got a headache, etc.). But what many do not seem to be able to get through their thick little heads is that when they get married they usually exchange vows to essentially be together for life, regardless.

That is not true by any version of events and, in fact, is often treated more as a temporary contracts rather than lifetime commitments that they have sworn to in front of witnesses.

Many of us also mistake love for lust and lust does wane a lot quicker than love. Many who get married have never felt real love at all, just imagine they have.

I was one such. The marriage lasted 14 years and was a disaster with a nasty finish, destroying lives of many. At least I learnt from that and have never and will never, marry again.

An interesting statistic on marriage is that those who divorce get away still alive while those that go the distance always die. About 50:50% is the latest guess at how many end in either of each. As you can see, I was one of the "fortunate" ones and got away with my life.

Also those who live together as de facto partners for a long time and then marry seem to get divorced a lot quicker than anyone else.

Think about it. Children will be hurt when you make a mistake. You may be such a child yourself, grown to adult. Remember how bad it was? Don't do that to others as yet inborn.

"Frank Sinatra – Love And Marriage Lyrics
Love and marriage, love and marriage
Go together like a horse and carriage
This I tell you brother
You can't have one without the other

Love and marriage, love and marriage
It's an institute you can't disparage
Ask the local gentry
And they will say it's elementary

Try, try, try to separate them
It's an illusion
Try, try, try, and you will only come
To this conclusion

Love and marriage, love and marriage
Go together like a horse and carriage
Dad was told by mother
You can't have one without the other, "
